Welcome to Independence Missouri's California Trail!

The California Trail was a major emigrant route across the Western United States from Missouri to California in the middle of the 19th century. It was primarily used for farmers and miners to the gold fields from the 1840's till the introduction of the railroads in the later part of the 1860's.

Settlers and Gold miners from the California and Oregon trails traveled together from their starting points until they were in Wyoming. Then they parted ways to settle in their respected territories.
