Raytown is centrally located within the western half of Jackson County, Missouri. The city is adjacent to the communities of Lee's Summit, Independence, and South Kansas City, Missouri, making it a primary district for business growth. Raytown has its own fire protection, police department and water supply. The schools are a prime asset, focusing on providing a quality education for all Raytown children. While in Raytown, don't forget to drop by the Chamber of Commerce located at 5909 Raytown Trafficway.
Historically, the area was known as "Ray's Town" due to the landmark location of William Ray's blacksmith shop, located at the intersection of 63rd and Raytown Road. Eventually the area became "Raytown." A marker today stands on the site of his blacksmith shop in his memory.
