Welcome to the Independence Square! |
After the Missouri Comprimise of 1821 Missouri became the 24th State of the Union. In 1827 the town of Independence was platted and a log courthouse was constructed. The problem was, the courthouse was also used as a pig pen in the daytime and was infested with fleas. A solution to this problem came in 1829 with the construction of the brick courthouse on the town square. The City of Independence was incorporated in 1849. |
