Welcome to the Independence Square!

After the Missouri Comprimise of 1821 Missouri became the 24th State of the Union. In 1827 the town of Independence was platted and a log courthouse was constructed. The problem was, the courthouse was also used as a pig pen in the daytime and was infested with fleas. A solution to this problem came in 1829 with the construction of the brick courthouse on the town square.

The City of Independence was incorporated in 1849.

There is much to do and see here in Independence Missouri. From unique shopping to historical sites. Independence has been a place where some of our countries greatest leaders made important decisions.

Terrific shopping, wonderful restaurants, and numerous accomodations... plan to spend about 2 days here to gather it all in!
